There are many examples of these inaccurate portrayals and representations, as every magazine is full of images that are edited to perfection. This stands true for males and females. However, for the sake of this blog the focus and discussion will be on females.
The media is always manipulated and give such bad examples, portrayals, and representations for the women. Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large. Implementing new legal frameworks regarding female equality in the workplace and the eradication of harmful practices targeted at women is crucial to ending the gender-based discrimination prevalent in many countries around the world.
A current example which appears in Time "Dear Game of Thrones, Enough With the Catfights", Game of Thrones has come into a lot of problems for its portrayal of women, from a rape scene to the suffering of male victim to hackneyed plots that turn strong female characters into damsels in pain. Some men on Game of Thrones writing things about women the stories lean on the idea that women have to suffer in order to become powerful. On Game of Thrones, there has been sexual abuse or humiliation of just about every powerful woman left on the show (Dockterman,2019). However, the show has made moves in recent years to improve its portrayals of women. As we entered season 8, Sansa and Daenerys were poised to finally meet two of the characters who suffered the most on the show. Everyone had grown too powerful leaders and political players on their own right from a pawn used by the men around them. But while their respective suffering might be over, subtle sexism still fell into the script. The eighth season's first episode played into one of Hollywood's most tired and toxic tropes, politics, media and beyond: the catfight (Dockterman,2019).
